TenPay Global Earns CNBC–Statista Recognition Among World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026

Tencent’s cross-border payments platform, TenPay Global, has been named to the World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026 list in the Payments category by CNBC and Statista. The recognition highlights the company’s expanding role in global digital payments as financial institutions and merchants increasingly seek interoperable, cross-border payment infrastructure that connects consumers, businesses, and international payment ecosystems.

Cross-border payments remain one of the fastest-evolving segments of financial technology, with payment providers investing heavily in infrastructure that enables faster, more seamless international transactions. Against that backdrop, TenPay Global, Tencent’s cross-border payment platform, has been recognized on the World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026 list, an annual ranking compiled by CNBC in partnership with research firm Statista.

The list recognizes fintech companies across multiple categories based on technology innovation, business performance, scalability, and market impact. According to CNBC and Statista, companies were evaluated using a data-driven methodology that incorporates both general business metrics and segment-specific performance indicators.

For TenPay Global, the recognition reflects its growing presence in cross-border payments, where digital wallets, international remittances, merchant acquiring, and embedded payment services are becoming increasingly interconnected.

Expanding cross-border payment infrastructure

TenPay Global operates as Tencent’s international payment platform, connecting licensed financial institutions with the broader Weixin and WeChat ecosystem.

The platform provides payment infrastructure supporting cross-border remittances, merchant acquiring, payment collection, and international consumer transactions. Its objective is to simplify how consumers transfer money internationally while helping merchants accept payments from travelers and overseas customers using familiar digital payment methods.

According to Tencent, TenPay Global currently partners with more than 60 international banks and remittance institutions, enabling transfers to China from over 150 countries and regions. The company says certain remittance transactions can be completed within approximately one minute, depending on the payment corridor and participating financial institutions.

Supporting international travelers and merchants

The platform has also expanded its support for international payment acceptance across mainland China.

Foreign visitors can link eligible cards issued through seven major international card networks—including Visa and Mastercard—to WeChat Pay, enabling QR-code payments at participating merchants.

Beyond international card schemes, TenPay Global has established partnerships with more than 40 digital wallet providers across 13 countries and regions. These integrations allow travelers to continue using familiar domestic payment applications, including PayPal in the United States and Travel Wallet in South Korea, while making purchases through Tencent’s merchant network in China.

The strategy reflects an industry-wide shift toward payment interoperability, where consumers increasingly expect digital wallets, bank accounts, and card networks to function seamlessly across international markets.

Enterprise implications

For businesses, TenPay Global provides payment collection and settlement services designed for companies operating internationally.

The platform supports industries including cross-border e-commerce, digital entertainment, and international commerce by offering payment acceptance, settlement, and acquiring services through a single infrastructure.

It also enables merchants operating through Weixin Mini Programs to accept multiple global and local payment methods without building separate integrations for individual markets.

This type of payment orchestration has become increasingly important as companies expand internationally and seek to reduce the operational complexity associated with managing multiple payment providers, currencies, and regulatory requirements.

Why the recognition matters

Recognition by CNBC and Statista comes as competition in global payments continues to intensify.

Established payment providers, digital wallets, and fintech platforms are investing in faster settlement, embedded finance, QR-code payments, and digital identity verification to improve cross-border commerce. The sector is also seeing increased collaboration between banks, fintech companies, and payment networks to improve interoperability across regional payment systems.

Royal Chen, Vice President of Tencent Financial Technology, said the company believes the next stage of cross-border payments will be driven by deeper collaboration across payment ecosystems and broader interoperability between financial service providers.

That approach aligns with wider industry efforts to reduce payment friction while improving accessibility for both consumers and merchants participating in global digital commerce.

The broader fintech landscape

Cross-border payments represent one of fintech’s largest growth opportunities as international e-commerce, digital services, and global travel continue to recover and expand.

Technology companies including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and NVIDIA are investing heavily in cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and data platforms that support modern payment processing, fraud detection, and transaction analytics. These technologies increasingly underpin payment providers’ efforts to deliver secure, scalable, and low-latency financial services.

Industry analysts also expect interoperability between digital wallets, real-time payment systems, and banking networks to become a defining trend over the coming years. Platforms capable of connecting multiple payment ecosystems while maintaining regulatory compliance are likely to play an increasingly important role in enabling cross-border financial services.

For TenPay Global, inclusion in the World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026 ranking reinforces its position within a competitive international payments market as demand grows for integrated payment infrastructure supporting consumers, merchants, and financial institutions across borders.

Market Landscape

Cross-border payments continue to be a strategic growth area for financial technology providers. According to McKinsey & Company, global payments revenues are projected to continue expanding as digital commerce and international transactions increase. Statista estimates that worldwide digital payment transaction values will continue to grow over the coming years, while Gartner identifies payment modernization, AI-driven fraud detection, and embedded finance as major priorities for financial institutions. As interoperability between wallets, banks, and payment networks improves, fintech providers are increasingly competing on ecosystem connectivity, settlement speed, and merchant experience.
