Pix Automático Launches in Brazil, Unlocking $30B Recurring Payments Opportunity

Brazil’s instant payment system, Pix, used by over 170 million consumers, today takes a bold step forward with the launch of Pix Automático -a recurring payments feature designed to expand financial access and fuel digital commerce.

This new capability is expected to significantly benefit subscription-based global platforms such as SaaS providers and streaming services, enabling them to tap into one of the fastest-growing and digitally connected consumer markets in the world.

A New Era for Subscription Services in Brazil

Originally introduced by the Central Bank of Brazil in 2020, Pix has become a core payment method, with adoption by over 91% of Brazilian adults. Yet, 60 million Brazilians remain without access to credit cards, limiting their ability to subscribe to digital services. Pix Automático addresses this gap by enabling seamless, secure, and scheduled account-to-account (A2A) recurring payments.

“The new recurring feature of Pix is the key to democratizing access to subscription services, enabling unprecedented financial control to millions of Brazilians,” said Eduardo de Abreu, VP of Product at EBANX.

EBANX Among First to Support Pix Automático for Global Brands

EBANX, a leading payment technology company specializing in emerging markets, is one of the first providers to integrate Pix Automático into its platform. Starting today, EBANX will enable global merchants—including streaming platforms and SaaS companies—to accept recurring Pix payments via its checkout solution.

EBANX’s infrastructure connects international businesses with the local financial systems of Latin America, Africa, and Asia. With Pix Automático now live, it allows partners to:

  • Expand reach to non-credit card holders
  • Offer seamless subscription billing through Pix
  • Improve payment success rates and user retention in Brazil

Market Potential: $30B in Recurring Payments

According to data from Payments and Commerce Market Intelligence (PCMI) cited in EBANX’s Beyond Borders 2025 report:

  • Pix Automático could unlock USD 30 billion in online recurring payments over the next two years.
  • Currently, Pix represents just 13% of SaaS and 2% of streaming online payment volume.
  • Credit cards still dominate these sectors with 86% (SaaS) and 79% (streaming) market share.

With Pix Automático, usage across these verticals is expected to surge, especially as Brazilian consumers increasingly favor Pix for its speed, cost-efficiency, and control.

E-commerce Boom Ahead

Brazilian e-commerce is on track to grow by 40% in the next two years, according to PCMI, equating to an additional USD 167 billion in online spending. Pix is projected to overtake credit cards as Brazil’s top payment method by the end of 2025.

“Card volume isn’t going away in sectors that depend on recurring payments,” added Abreu. “But with Pix Automático, we’re seeing a new layer of opportunity emerge that benefits both consumers and merchants.”
