Lumin Digital Selected by Eclipse Bank for Digital Banking

Eclipse Bank has selected Lumin Digital as its new digital banking provider, giving the Louisville-based community bank a cloud-native platform for retail and commercial customers. The move highlights how community financial institutions are upgrading digital banking infrastructure while seeking to preserve the personalized service and flexibility that differentiate them from larger banks.

Community banks are facing a digital banking challenge that extends beyond launching another mobile application. Customers increasingly expect the same speed, consistency and convenience from a local financial institution that they receive from large national banks, while community banks still need digital experiences that reflect their relationship-driven business models.

Eclipse Bank is addressing that challenge through a new partnership with Lumin Digital, selecting the company as its digital banking provider for retail and commercial customers.

The Louisville, Kentucky-based bank plans to use Lumin’s cloud-native platform to create a more customized digital experience across mobile and online banking. The partnership is intended to give Eclipse a common digital foundation while preserving flexibility to add services and capabilities as customer requirements change.

For community banks, that flexibility is becoming an important part of digital strategy. Traditional digital banking deployments can involve tightly integrated systems and lengthy upgrade cycles, making it difficult for institutions to introduce new features quickly or connect additional financial services.

Lumin’s platform is designed around a cloud-native architecture, with data and ongoing product development positioned as core components. For Eclipse, the objective is not simply to replace its existing digital interface but to establish infrastructure that can evolve alongside its retail and commercial banking operations.

The bank’s strategy also reflects the continuing importance of personalization in financial services.

Large banks and fintech companies have invested heavily in digital experiences, automated recommendations and integrated financial tools. Community institutions, meanwhile, often compete through local knowledge and direct customer relationships. A digital platform that forces those institutions into a standardized experience can weaken rather than reinforce that advantage.

Eclipse CEO Andrew Pyles said the bank wanted a technology partner that would provide the same flexibility it seeks to offer customers through customized banking solutions.

That requirement puts digital banking infrastructure at the center of the partnership. Rather than treating mobile and online banking as separate channels, Eclipse expects Lumin to provide a consistent experience across both environments for consumers and commercial customers.

A unified experience can also create a foundation for additional services. Banks can connect payments, financial-management capabilities, customer communications and other applications to digital channels, provided the underlying platform supports the required integrations.

This is part of a broader transition in banking technology toward API-connected and cloud-based infrastructure. Financial institutions increasingly need to combine established core systems with specialized fintech applications, rather than relying on a single vendor for every digital capability.

Cloud-native digital banking platforms can play the role of an orchestration layer between those systems. Their value is therefore tied not only to the user interface but also to how easily banks can introduce new functionality, integrate third-party services and use customer data to improve engagement.

Lumin describes its platform as a Compounding Growth Platform, arguing that its value increases as financial institutions add capabilities and build deeper digital relationships. The company’s focus spans customer engagement, relationship expansion and business growth.

One independent measure cited in the announcement comes from S&P Global Market Intelligence. Its study found that financial institutions using Lumin achieved a 145% return on investment over five years, with 75% of the value attributed to revenue growth, according to the company.

Those figures should be viewed as evidence from an independent study rather than a guarantee of results for Eclipse. The financial impact of a digital banking deployment can vary substantially based on an institution’s customer base, product mix, adoption rates, implementation strategy and broader technology environment.

Still, the emphasis on revenue growth illustrates how digital banking has evolved. Banks are increasingly evaluating digital platforms not only through technical metrics such as uptime, feature releases and mobile adoption, but also through their ability to deepen customer relationships.

For retail banking, that can include encouraging customers to use more products, increasing engagement and making it easier to interact with the institution digitally. In commercial banking, digital capabilities can affect how businesses manage accounts, payments and financial workflows.

The competitive landscape is also changing as fintech providers offer banks modular infrastructure for payments, lending, identity, embedded finance and customer engagement. Community banks have more technology options than they did a decade ago, but they also face greater integration complexity.

That makes vendor selection a strategic decision.

A digital banking platform must work with existing banking infrastructure while providing enough flexibility to accommodate future services. It also needs to support security, regulatory controls and reliable access across multiple customer channels.

For Eclipse, Lumin’s cloud-native approach is intended to provide that foundation without sacrificing the bank’s relationship-oriented positioning.

The partnership is another example of how smaller financial institutions are using specialized technology providers to modernize customer-facing infrastructure. Instead of attempting to recreate the technology stacks of national banks internally, community institutions can increasingly rely on fintech platforms while retaining control over their customer relationships and product strategies.

The result is a banking technology market in which cloud-native digital banking, data-driven personalization and composable financial infrastructure are becoming increasingly interconnected.

Eclipse’s deployment will ultimately be judged by how customers use the new experience and whether the bank can translate improved digital capabilities into stronger engagement and broader relationships. The selection of Lumin gives the institution a technology foundation designed to support that evolution, while leaving room for additional capabilities as its digital strategy develops.

Market Landscape

Digital banking is moving from a channel-specific technology purchase toward a broader customer engagement and financial infrastructure layer. Cloud-native platforms allow banks to modernize mobile and online experiences while connecting additional services and data sources.

For community banks, the challenge is balancing modernization with differentiation. They need digital capabilities that can compete with larger institutions without forcing them into standardized customer experiences.

Eclipse Bank’s selection of Lumin reflects this broader trend toward specialized fintech platforms providing the infrastructure smaller financial institutions need to compete digitally while maintaining their existing operating models.
