Crescent Backs Infravadis With Unitranche Financing

Crescent Capital Group is providing unitranche financing to support the refinancing and recapitalization of Infravadis, a technology-enabled European underground infrastructure maintenance company backed by Oakley Capital. The financing also includes an acquisition facility, giving Infravadis additional capacity to pursue its buy-and-build strategy across Germany and potentially other European markets.

Crescent Capital Group is putting private credit behind the next phase of consolidation in Europe’s underground infrastructure maintenance market.

The alternative credit investment firm said its European Specialty Lending strategy has provided unitranche financing in connection with the refinancing and recapitalization of Infravadis, a portfolio company of private equity firm Oakley Capital. The transaction also includes an acquisition facility intended to support Infravadis’ continued buy-and-build strategy.

The financing comes as infrastructure investors increasingly look beyond traditional physical assets toward businesses that maintain and operate essential infrastructure. For Infravadis, the focus is underground infrastructure maintenance, including the cleaning, inspection and rehabilitation of pipes, drains and sewer networks.

The company operates through a growing network of regional businesses in Germany and is pursuing a broader European expansion strategy. Its model combines technical field services with digital tools and technology-enabled processes designed to improve operational efficiency and create a more scalable platform.

That combination is relevant to both the infrastructure and financial technology landscape. While Infravadis is not a fintech company, its financing illustrates how private credit is increasingly being used to fund technology-enabled service platforms operating in infrastructure-heavy industries.

A unitranche facility combines senior and subordinated debt into a single financing instrument, generally giving borrowers a simpler capital structure and a single lender or lending group. For private equity-backed companies pursuing acquisitions, that structure can provide greater flexibility than arranging multiple layers of debt.

The additional acquisition facility is particularly significant for Infravadis because its growth strategy depends partly on acquiring regional operators and integrating them into a larger platform.

Crescent said the financing is intended to address Infravadis’ immediate capital requirements while providing additional capacity for future acquisitions. Christine Vanden Beukel, managing director and head of Crescent’s European Specialty Lending strategy, said the lender sees opportunities for Infravadis to consolidate a fragmented underground infrastructure maintenance market in Germany and the wider region.

The broader infrastructure environment provides some support for that thesis. McKinsey estimates that Europe will require substantial additional investment in infrastructure, while infrastructure services—including predictive maintenance and other operational capabilities—are increasingly being considered part of the investable infrastructure ecosystem. European infrastructure assets under management grew from about €91 billion in 2014 to approximately €487 billion in 2025, according to McKinsey.

Underground water and wastewater infrastructure represents an especially persistent investment requirement. Germany’s Association of Local Utilities, or VKU, cited a study estimating that approximately €800 billion of investment will be required over the next 20 years to maintain the country’s water supply and wastewater systems at expected standards.

That creates a potentially attractive environment for specialist maintenance providers. Aging infrastructure needs regular inspection and rehabilitation, while municipalities and infrastructure owners face constraints around budgets, staffing and project execution.

Germany’s broader municipal infrastructure deficit reinforces the challenge. KfW Research estimated in June 2026 that German municipalities faced a perceived infrastructure investment backlog of €231.2 billion, up 7.2% from the previous year. Municipalities also expected to invest around €50 billion in infrastructure during 2026.

For Infravadis, technology can potentially help address some of the operational complexity associated with managing a distributed maintenance business. Digital inspection, asset data, scheduling systems and technology-enabled workflows can give a consolidating platform greater visibility across regional operations, although the company has not disclosed detailed performance metrics for those systems.

The transaction also arrives as private credit becomes a more established source of financing for private equity-backed businesses. McKinsey’s 2026 review found that private credit remained a large and increasingly diverse asset class in 2025, although competition among lenders intensified. Direct-lending volumes moderated while deal sizes increased, with average U.S. direct-lending LBO deal size reaching approximately $380 million in 2025.

For lenders, that environment increases the importance of underwriting businesses with identifiable recurring demand and clear expansion strategies. For sponsors, meanwhile, private credit can provide financing structures designed around acquisition programs without requiring a company to return to the market for a new facility after every transaction.

The Infravadis deal therefore illustrates a convergence of several trends: private credit’s role in sponsor-backed financing, increased investment in essential infrastructure, and the use of technology to consolidate traditionally fragmented service markets.

The key test will be execution. Infravadis will need to integrate acquired businesses while maintaining service quality across geographically dispersed operations. If it can scale those processes successfully, the acquisition facility could become an important component of a wider European platform strategy.

For GlobalFinTechEdge, the transaction highlights a broader development in Financial Technology, Banking Technology Innovation and Embedded Finance Infrastructure: financial technology increasingly extends beyond payments and banking interfaces into the capital and financing systems that enable technology-led businesses to scale.

Market Landscape

The transaction sits at the intersection of private credit, infrastructure finance and technology-enabled business consolidation.

European infrastructure investment continues to expand. McKinsey estimates European infrastructure AUM reached approximately €487 billion in 2025, up from €91 billion in 2014, while global infrastructure needs could require $106 trillion of investment through 2040.

Germany presents a particularly significant maintenance opportunity. VKU estimates €800 billion of investment will be required in water and wastewater infrastructure over the next two decades.

Meanwhile, private credit is becoming more competitive and specialized. McKinsey reports that direct-lending spreads compressed during 2025 as lenders competed for a limited pool of transactions, increasing the importance of disciplined underwriting and differentiated financing structures.
