SDK.finance Launches Real-Time General Ledger for Modern Financial Platforms

  • September 7, 2026

SDK.finance has launched a standalone General Ledger designed to give banks, electronic money institutions, payment service providers and FinTech companies a real-time accounting layer without forcing them to replace their existing transaction infrastructure. The module addresses a growing problem in financial platforms: transaction engines can move money quickly while accounting records, reconciliation and financial reporting remain fragmented across separate systems.

Financial platforms have become increasingly good at moving money. The harder challenge is often keeping an accurate, immediate record of what every transaction means financially.

As banks, payment providers, digital wallets and embedded-finance platforms expand across currencies, payment rails and customer products, accounting data can become distributed across multiple systems.

That fragmentation can create delayed balances, manual reconciliation, inconsistent records and limited visibility into the financial position of individual accounts or products.

SDK.finance is targeting that gap with its new General Ledger, a standalone real-time accounting module that can sit alongside existing financial infrastructure.

Rather than replacing a core banking system, payment platform or transaction engine, the module is designed to consume business events from those systems and translate them into balanced double-entry accounting entries.

The approach separates transaction processing from accounting while allowing the two layers to remain connected.

Adding an Accounting Layer Without Rebuilding the Stack

Replacing core financial infrastructure is expensive and operationally risky.

For many financial institutions, the more practical approach is to add specialized capabilities around an existing platform.

SDK.finance General Ledger follows that model.

The module receives business events from a core banking system, payment platform, digital wallet or other transaction engine through Kafka or REST APIs. Configurable accounting determinations and mapping rules then translate those events into journal-entry legs.

The system validates that debits and credits balance before entries are posted.

That architecture gives financial and technology teams a dedicated accounting layer without requiring changes to the underlying transaction-processing logic.

For institutions operating established payment infrastructure, that distinction could be important.

The company is effectively positioning the ledger as infrastructure that can be added incrementally rather than as another replacement core.

Real-Time Accounting Moves Beyond End-of-Day Reconciliation

One of the most significant features is real-time balance and turnover reporting.

Traditional financial workflows can involve reconciliation processes that run periodically, with finance teams checking whether operational transaction data matches accounting records.

A real-time ledger changes the operating model.

When business events are translated into accounting entries as they occur, financial teams can have a more immediate view of account balances and transaction effects.

That can be useful for businesses processing large numbers of payments, fees, settlements or transfers across multiple products.

It also creates a clearer connection between what a transaction system says happened and what the accounting system records financially.

The benefit is not simply speed.

Real-time accounting can help reduce the gap between operational activity and financial reporting, potentially making exceptions easier to identify before they accumulate into larger reconciliation problems.

Immutable Entries Create an Audit Trail

The platform also takes a conventional accounting principle and applies it to a modern software architecture: posted journal entries are immutable.

If an error needs to be corrected, the system uses a reversing entry rather than changing the original record.

That creates a chronological history of what was posted and how a correction was subsequently made.

For regulated financial businesses, this type of traceability matters.

Accounting systems need to provide evidence of how balances were generated and how adjustments occurred.

An immutable journal can therefore support auditability while reducing ambiguity around historical records.

The system also includes role-based access controls and a traceable audit history, extending that emphasis beyond the accounting entries themselves.

Designed for Multi-Currency and Digital Assets

Modern financial platforms increasingly operate across more than one type of monetary asset.

Payment providers may handle multiple fiat currencies, while digital wallets and digital-asset businesses can combine traditional currencies with crypto-related transactions.

SDK.finance says its General Ledger supports fiat currencies and digital assets, with precision of up to 18 decimal places.

That capability reflects a broader convergence between traditional payment infrastructure and digital-asset systems.

Accounting becomes more complicated when platforms need to record different asset types, fees, settlements, conversions and liabilities while maintaining consistent financial logic.

A configurable chart of accounts and mapping rules can give finance teams greater control over how those events are represented.

Use Cases Span Payments and Embedded Finance

SDK.finance is targeting a wide range of financial businesses.

For banks and EMIs, the ledger can provide accounting capabilities alongside existing core infrastructure.

PSPs can use it to account for transactions, fees and settlements across multiple payment rails.

Digital wallets and neobanks can use real-time balances to support customer and operational accounting.

Remittance providers face another layer of complexity because cross-border transactions can involve foreign exchange, multiple currencies and payout partners.

The same accounting infrastructure can also apply to embedded finance.

A marketplace, for example, may need to record customer payments, merchant liabilities, commissions and split settlements.

In that environment, the payment event itself is only part of the accounting story. The platform also needs to determine which accounts are affected and how those obligations should be represented.

Digital Assets Bring a Different Accounting Challenge

Digital-asset businesses are another potential use case.

Crypto-related platforms may need to account for movements between wallets, fiat on-ramps and off-ramps, fees and other financial events.

The challenge is maintaining consistent accounting treatment across systems that may have been designed around fundamentally different transaction models.

A dedicated ledger can act as a common accounting layer across those events.

However, technology alone does not determine the appropriate accounting treatment. Businesses still need accounting policies, controls and regulatory frameworks appropriate to their jurisdictions and products.

That distinction will remain important as digital assets become increasingly integrated with mainstream financial services.

Source Code Access Adds an Enterprise Dimension

SDK.finance is also offering source-code access for organizations that require greater control and customization.

That is a meaningful proposition for financial institutions that may be reluctant to place core accounting logic entirely inside a closed software environment.

Source access can potentially allow organizations to adapt integrations, workflows and accounting rules to their own architectures.

At the same time, greater control also means greater responsibility for governance, security, maintenance and version management.

The option therefore speaks particularly to organizations that want a software foundation they can modify rather than a fully managed black-box service.

The Bigger FinTech Infrastructure Shift

The General Ledger launch points to a broader evolution in financial technology.

The industry has spent much of the past decade modernizing customer-facing experiences and transaction infrastructure. Payments have become faster, wallets more flexible and embedded-finance products more common.

But those front-end improvements still depend on financial infrastructure underneath them.

As transaction volumes and product complexity increase, businesses need accounting systems that can keep pace with the underlying activity.

That is where real-time ledgers are becoming strategically important.

The market already includes specialized providers and broader banking platforms offering ledger and accounting capabilities. SDK.finance’s approach is differentiated by positioning the ledger as a standalone layer that can coexist with existing transaction infrastructure.

That could appeal to institutions pursuing modernization without undertaking a full core replacement.

Accounting Infrastructure Becomes Part of FinTech’s API Stack

The larger implication is that accounting is increasingly becoming programmable infrastructure.

Instead of treating the general ledger as an isolated back-office system, financial platforms can connect accounting directly to transaction events through APIs and event-streaming infrastructure.

That creates a more continuous financial data flow:

Business event → accounting determination → balanced journal entry → real-time balance → auditable record.

For financial companies operating across products and payment rails, that architecture can help bring technology and finance teams closer to the same underlying financial data.

SDK.finance’s launch is therefore less about introducing another accounting application and more about separating accounting from the transaction engine while keeping the two tightly synchronized.

As FinTech products become more complex, that distinction could become increasingly important.

Market Landscape

The market for financial ledgers sits beneath the broader core banking, payments, digital wallet and FinTech infrastructure ecosystem.

Traditional core-banking providers compete with modern infrastructure companies and specialist ledger platforms. Providers such as Thought Machine, Mambu, 10x Banking and Form3 have helped push financial infrastructure toward modular, API-driven architectures, while larger technology vendors continue to offer integrated banking and accounting capabilities.

SDK.finance is taking a more modular position by allowing its General Ledger to operate alongside an existing transaction engine.

The key competitive question is whether financial institutions prefer to replace legacy cores or progressively add specialized infrastructure around them.

Real-time accounting also becomes increasingly relevant as embedded finance, instant payments, multi-currency products and digital assets increase the volume and complexity of financial events.
