MultiBank Launches Interbank FX Platform With Digital Settlement

  • November 2, 2026

MultiBank Exchange, part of MultiBank Group, has unveiled an institutional foreign exchange trading platform designed to connect traditional interbank markets with digital asset settlement infrastructure. The platform supports double exotic currency pairs and settlement in both fiat currencies and digital assets, targeting banks, hedge funds, family offices, and financial institutions across emerging and established markets. With a reported daily trading capacity of up to $21 billion and a matching engine operating at 400 nanoseconds, the launch highlights the growing convergence of foreign exchange trading, institutional liquidity, and blockchain-enabled financial settlement.

MultiBank Exchange Targets Emerging Markets With Digital FX Settlement

MultiBank Exchange is entering the institutional foreign exchange market with a platform that combines multi-bank liquidity, high-speed trade execution, and digital asset settlement. The initiative reflects a growing effort across financial services to connect conventional foreign exchange infrastructure with blockchain-based settlement options, particularly for institutions operating in emerging markets.

The platform is being positioned as an institutional trading venue for banks, hedge funds, family offices, financial institutions, and derivatives brokers. MultiBank says it connects more than 30 tier-one banks and liquidity providers, offers access to over 250 currencies, and has recorded daily trading volumes of up to $21 billion. The launch was announced during Dubai Future Finance Week, where MultiBank Group is presenting the platform to institutional clients and prospective partners. The group has also established a board of directors for MultiBank Exchange Holding, chaired by founder Naser Taher, with Mohammed Al Hakim serving as vice chairman.

Connecting Institutional FX Trading With Digital Assets

The platform’s central proposition is its support for double exotic currency pairs alongside settlement in both traditional fiat currencies and digital assets.

Exotic currency trading typically involves currencies from smaller or less liquid economies, where access to counterparties, pricing depth, and execution can be more challenging than in major currency markets. MultiBank’s offering is intended to expand institutional access to these markets through a consolidated trading infrastructure.

The company describes the platform as the first interbank trading venue to combine double exotic currency pairs with fiat and digital asset settlement. The significance lies in bringing execution and settlement options together within an institutional trading environment.

MultiBank also reports that its matching engine operates at 400 nanoseconds. The company describes this as the fastest matching engine in interbank trading history. However, the announcement does not provide independent benchmarking methodology, latency testing conditions, or comparative performance data.

The platform also incorporates credit and settlement services for its counterparties, an arrangement MultiBank says distinguishes it from other interbank trading venues.

This integration matters because executing a foreign exchange transaction is only one part of institutional trading. Counterparty credit, liquidity availability, clearing arrangements, and final settlement determine whether transactions can be completed efficiently and with manageable operational risk.

A Digital Settlement Layer for Global FX Markets

One of the platform’s more consequential features is its support for cryptocurrency-based settlement alongside conventional currencies.

MultiBank says its regulated subsidiaries in Australia, Singapore, and the UAE will support the settlement infrastructure. This creates a potential connection between traditional foreign exchange trading and digital asset financial services.

The distinction between digital asset trading and digital asset settlement is important. While cryptocurrency markets already support extensive trading activity, integrating digital assets into institutional foreign exchange workflows requires additional infrastructure covering custody, counterparty verification, transaction monitoring, liquidity, and regulatory compliance.

The company has not specified which digital assets will initially be supported, how conversion and redemption will work, or whether every participating institution will have access to the same settlement options.

For institutional participants, those details will be important in evaluating whether digital settlement can complement existing banking arrangements or become a viable alternative for selected transactions.

Emerging Markets Are Central to the Strategy

MultiBank Exchange is targeting financial institutions across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), BRICS economies, and other emerging markets.

The strategy addresses a structural feature of global foreign exchange trading: liquidity and execution activity remain concentrated in established financial centres.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) reported that global foreign exchange turnover reached approximately $9.6 trillion per day in April 2025, representing a 28% increase from 2022. Its survey also found that the United Kingdom, United States, Singapore, and Hong Kong accounted for 75% of global FX trading. Bank for International Settlements

This concentration provides context for MultiBank’s attempt to connect emerging-market institutions with international liquidity providers and trading technology.

Access to less frequently traded currency pairs can be particularly relevant for financial institutions serving regional businesses, importers, exporters, and investors with exposure to multiple currencies. However, access to a trading platform alone does not guarantee competitive pricing. Liquidity depth, execution quality, credit availability, and transaction costs will determine its practical value.

MultiBank also announced a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Kazakhstan to explore interbank settlement in digital currencies. The agreement could provide a foundation for further engagement with public-sector and financial institutions, although an MOU does not establish that a production settlement network is operational.

Institutional Infrastructure Moves Beyond Execution Speed

The broader financial technology market is increasingly exploring how digital assets can support institutional settlement, tokenized financial instruments, and cross-border payments.

MultiBank’s approach differs from platforms focused exclusively on cryptocurrency exchanges or retail foreign exchange brokerage. Its stated objective is to integrate institutional liquidity, credit arrangements, execution, and settlement within one trading environment.

That model places it within a competitive landscape involving institutional FX venues, electronic communication networks, prime brokers, liquidity aggregators, and emerging blockchain settlement providers.

The next challenge will be demonstrating interoperability with existing banking infrastructure. Institutional participants need clear information about asset custody, settlement finality, jurisdictional permissions, counterparty exposure, and operational resilience before incorporating digital assets into established treasury and trading processes.

The company has not yet published detailed independent evidence of transaction volumes attributable to the new platform, its digital settlement throughput, or the number of counterparties actively using its proposed capabilities.

For GlobalFinTechEdge, the launch highlights an important development in banking technology innovation: the convergence of traditional foreign exchange infrastructure and digital financial assets. MultiBank Exchange is attempting to make that connection through an institutional trading model aimed at emerging markets.

Its long-term relevance will depend on whether the platform can convert its technical specifications and institutional partnerships into sustained trading activity, reliable settlement, and measurable improvements in access to global currency markets.

4. Market Landscape

MultiBank Exchange enters a financial technology market undergoing several structural changes:

  • Institutional FX modernization: Financial institutions are investing in electronic trading, liquidity aggregation, and faster execution infrastructure.
  • Digital asset settlement: Banks and financial intermediaries are exploring cryptocurrency and tokenized settlement mechanisms alongside conventional fiat payment systems.
  • Emerging-market financial infrastructure: GCC, BRICS, and other developing economies are seeking broader access to international liquidity and institutional trading networks.
  • Cross-border financial services: Digital settlement infrastructure could support international payments, currency conversion, and corporate treasury operations.
  • Institutional blockchain adoption: Financial institutions are evaluating blockchain infrastructure for settlement, custody, tokenization, and digital asset management.

The BIS finding that four major financial centres account for 75% of global FX trading highlights the market concentration that platforms targeting emerging-market institutions are attempting to address.
