Medius Launches Embedded Payments to Automate AP from Invoice to Execution

Medius Unveils Embedded Payments to Kill Off AP Fragmentation

In the ever-evolving world of finance automation, Medius just dropped what could be a game-changer for accounts payable teams. The company has launched Medius Payments, an embedded payment solution designed to eliminate the clunky handoffs and third-party tools that often slow down or complicate B2B payment workflows.

At the heart of this rollout is something Medius calls Straight Through Payments. The idea? Finance teams can now build, approve, and execute payment batches without ever leaving the Medius platform—no more uploading files to ERP systems or fiddling with middleware to get payments moving. Transactions are executed through the customer’s existing bank accounts, giving them full control over cash flow while streamlining the disbursement process.

And here’s the kicker: this isn’t just another bolt-on. It’s native.

From Invoice to Execution—No Detours

With Medius Payments, the company is extending the reach of its existing Medius Pay functionality to support an array of global payment methods, including:

  • ACH, SEPA, BACS, CHAPS, BankGiro, and wire transfers
  • Good old-fashioned checks
  • Virtual cards for the digital-first crowd

All of this works in multiple currencies and across geographies, helping finance departments handle diverse supplier needs without jumping between systems.

Unlike standalone payment processors or ERP-tethered modules, Medius Payments is fully embedded into the AP workflow. That means approval rules, fraud detection, and audit logging are baked in—not patched on. It’s a clear nod to rising concerns around payment fraud and the need for tighter internal controls.

“Finance teams don’t need more tools. They need fewer, smarter ones,” said Gary Hall, Chief Product Officer at Medius. “By embedding payments directly into the AP workflow, we give customers a clear path from invoice to payment execution with full security and without changing how they bank.”

A Strategic Shot at Mid-Market and Enterprise AP

This move targets a critical pain point in AP automation: fragmentation. Too often, the payment part of the process is siloed from invoice processing, forcing teams to manually bridge gaps and increasing the risk of error, delay, or fraud.

By connecting directly to ERP systems and syncing audit trails, Medius aims to smooth the entire path from invoice capture through to reconciliation—no extra software, no swivel-chair workflows. For global suppliers, the benefits are equally clear: faster payment processing and more detailed remittance information.

“Medius Payments is built for the complex needs of mid-market and enterprise finance teams,” added Ekaterina Dzhalchinova, VP of Product Management. “Automation only delivers its full value when it extends from start to finish.”

How It Stacks Up

In a crowded AP automation market, Medius is taking a shot across the bow of competitors like Tipalti, Bill.com, and Airbase—platforms that offer strong payment capabilities but often operate adjacent to, rather than within, broader financial workflows. Medius’ fully integrated approach, paired with bank-agnostic execution, positions it as a compelling option for finance leaders looking to consolidate tools without sacrificing control.

While many vendors preach the gospel of “end-to-end” finance automation, few have actually delivered it in practice. Medius just might be closing that loop.
