Fibank Integrates Bitpanda Crypto Trading Into Mobile App

Bulgaria’s First Investment Bank (Fibank) has partnered with Bitpanda GmbH to offer customers access to cryptocurrency trading through its My Fibank mobile application. The integration will connect the bank’s digital banking platform with Bitpanda’s crypto asset infrastructure, allowing eligible customers to access digital asset services within the same app they use for traditional banking. The companies say the service will support investments starting at €1, subject to customer acceptance and applicable terms. The partnership reflects growing interest among European banks in offering regulated digital asset services through existing customer channels.

Fibank Adds Bitpanda Crypto Services to My Fibank

Fibank has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Bitpanda GmbH to integrate crypto asset services into its My Fibank mobile banking application, giving eligible customers a route to access digital asset trading without leaving the bank’s digital environment.

Under the arrangement, Bitpanda will provide the crypto asset services through its integrated interface and infrastructure. Customers who complete the application process and are accepted by Bitpanda will be able to access the services around the clock, with a stated minimum investment of €1.

Fibank describes the arrangement as the first offering of its kind by a Bulgarian bank. The integration is intended to extend My Fibank beyond conventional banking functions by bringing crypto asset access into the same digital environment as customers’ existing financial services.

The announcement does not specify the full range of supported cryptocurrencies, transaction fees, custody arrangements or the exact date when the service will become available. Customers’ access will depend on Bitpanda’s acceptance criteria and applicable terms.

Banking Apps Become Distribution Channels for Crypto

The partnership reflects a model in which banks connect customers to digital asset services through specialist technology providers instead of developing and operating a complete crypto trading platform independently.

For Fibank, integrating Bitpanda’s infrastructure could extend the functionality of My Fibank while using an established external provider for crypto services. Customers may benefit from a familiar banking interface and consolidated access to financial products, although the crypto service remains subject to Bitpanda’s terms and customer onboarding requirements.

This model can also give crypto service providers access to an established bank customer base. Bitpanda Enterprise, the company’s business-facing infrastructure operation, supplies technology intended to help financial institutions and other partners offer digital asset services.

Bitpanda Global Head of Bitpanda Enterprise Nadeem Ladki said the partnership would bring crypto access to more than one million customers through a banking experience they already use. That figure reflects the reach cited by the company; it does not mean all customers will qualify for the new service or adopt it.

The integration also illustrates a distinction between a bank distributing or connecting to crypto services and the bank itself directly providing those services. In this arrangement, Fibank says Bitpanda will provide the crypto asset services. The division of responsibilities for onboarding, custody, transaction execution and customer support should therefore be understood through the final service terms.

Low Entry Threshold, Different Risk Profile

The €1 minimum investment lowers the initial financial threshold for customers who want to explore supported crypto assets. However, a low entry amount does not make the underlying assets low-risk.

Fibank explicitly cautions that crypto assets differ from traditional deposits and financial instruments and are not covered by deposit guarantees or compensation schemes in the way customers might expect from conventional banking products. Crypto asset prices can fluctuate significantly, and customers may lose some or all of the amount they invest.

The service will also require prospective customers to complete an application process and meet Bitpanda’s acceptance criteria. The announcement does not detail the eligibility checks, fees, spreads, withdrawal conditions or asset-specific limitations that will apply.

For customers, these practical details will be important in comparing crypto services with other investment options. Access through a banking app may simplify navigation, but it does not remove the need to understand asset volatility, custody arrangements and the legal protections applicable to the service.

The partnership’s reference to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements also does not mean that crypto assets receive the same protections as bank deposits. Regulatory authorization, product-specific safeguards and deposit insurance are distinct matters.

European Regulatory Context

European financial institutions are evaluating how to respond to customer interest in digital assets while operating within evolving regulatory frameworks. The EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) establishes a common framework for covered crypto asset activities and service providers, including authorization and conduct requirements.

Bitpanda’s role as the crypto service provider is central to the Fibank arrangement. Before launch, customers and market participants will need clear information about the legal entity providing each service, the scope of its authorization and the terms governing access in Bulgaria.

Fibank says the collaboration makes it the first bank in Bulgaria to offer integrated crypto trading access through its digital channels. That distinction is a company claim and should be independently checked against other Bulgarian banks’ current offerings before publication.

The announcement also does not establish whether every Bitpanda service or asset will be available through My Fibank. The actual product scope will depend on the integration and applicable restrictions.

What the Partnership Means for Digital Banking

The Fibank–Bitpanda agreement shows how banking apps can become access points for financial products delivered by external technology providers. By integrating crypto services into My Fibank, the bank aims to broaden its digital offering while relying on Bitpanda to provide the underlying crypto functionality.

The model could offer customers a more unified digital experience and give Bitpanda access to a bank’s existing distribution channel. Its long-term impact will depend on customer adoption, the available asset range, pricing transparency and how effectively the companies communicate risk and service responsibilities.

For the wider fintech sector, the key development is not simply the addition of crypto trading, but the integration of third-party digital asset infrastructure into a traditional bank’s customer interface. As more institutions consider similar arrangements, regulatory clarity, operational resilience and customer protection will remain central to implementation.

Market Landscape

Banks are exploring partnerships with specialist crypto providers to add digital asset functionality without building every component of the trading infrastructure themselves. Integrating services into existing banking apps can make access more convenient while allowing providers to use established customer channels.

Fibank’s partnership with Bitpanda follows this model. The bank supplies the digital banking distribution channel, while Bitpanda provides the crypto asset services. Customer eligibility, service terms, asset availability and regulatory protections remain important factors in evaluating the offering.
