Bloomberg Brings ASKB AI Conversations From Terminal to Mobile

Bloomberg is extending its conversational AI assistant, ASKB, beyond the desktop Bloomberg Terminal, allowing financial professionals to continue the same research conversation on an iPhone, iPad or Android device. The update turns cross-device continuity into a core part of the workflow, while adding profile personalization and easier mobile access for Bloomberg Anywhere subscribers.

Financial research increasingly happens in the gaps between meetings, calls and commutes. Bloomberg is now trying to make those gaps part of the workflow.

The company has expanded ASKB, its conversational AI interface for the Bloomberg Terminal, with a set of mobile capabilities designed to let financial professionals move between desktop and mobile without restarting their research.

The central change is persistent conversation continuity. A user can begin an ASKB query on the Bloomberg Terminal and continue the same thread on an iPhone, iPad or Android device, with the conversation context preserved.

That sounds like a straightforward mobile feature. Technically, however, Bloomberg is positioning it as an architectural change: the persistent session follows the user rather than being tied to a particular interface.

For analysts, portfolio managers and other market professionals, that distinction matters. A research question that begins at a desk can now continue while entering a meeting, traveling to a conference or responding to breaking market news.

ASKB can answer questions using data, news, research and analytics to which the user is entitled through Bloomberg. Bloomberg says its AI-agent architecture also retains existing safeguards, including source attribution, access to generated Bloomberg Query Language (BQL) code for structured-data analysis and validators intended to check answers before they reach users.

Bloomberg turns ASKB into a mobile workflow

The mobile version is not being positioned as a stripped-down companion to the Terminal.

Bloomberg says conversational workflows, firm-wide workflow sharing, prompt optimization, file previews and profile personalization operate across desktop and mobile. A workflow created on the desktop can also be scheduled and accessed from mobile.

The company has added a dedicated ASKB tab to the Bloomberg Professional mobile app, reducing the number of steps required to reach the assistant.

Users can also create a personalized ASKB profile describing their role, professional focus or preferences. That profile travels across devices, allowing the system to tailor responses consistently whether the user is working from a Terminal or mobile device.

Another feature is Morning Report scheduling. A financial professional can configure a recurring market briefing and review it from a mobile device rather than having to return to a desktop.

On iOS and iPadOS, Bloomberg has also adopted Apple’s Liquid Glass design language. A corresponding Android design update is expected in the coming weeks.

The bigger shift is from chatbot to financial workflow

The most important part of the announcement may be what Bloomberg is trying to make ASKB become.

The financial-services AI market is moving beyond generic question-and-answer interfaces toward systems that can operate inside established professional workflows. Bloomberg has an unusual advantage here because ASKB sits on top of the company’s proprietary financial data, research, analytics and Terminal environment.

That gives it a different position from general-purpose AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini or Microsoft Copilot. Those systems can be powerful research companions, but Bloomberg’s proposition is that ASKB operates within a financial data environment where the user’s existing entitlements and workflows remain central.

Competitors are pursuing similar ideas. Microsoft is integrating Copilot into enterprise workflows, while financial technology companies are developing AI assistants for investment research, portfolio analysis and capital-markets operations. Bloomberg’s differentiation is therefore less about conversational AI itself and more about combining it with a deeply established financial-information platform.

The distinction is important for enterprise buyers. A finance professional generally needs more than a fluent answer. They need to know where the information came from, whether they are authorized to access it and, in many cases, how a numerical conclusion was derived.

Bloomberg’s emphasis on attribution, BQL visibility and validation speaks directly to that requirement.

AI adoption is moving toward embedded financial systems

The market context supports Bloomberg’s strategy. Gartner reported that 59% of finance functions were using AI in 2025, up only slightly from 58% the previous year, suggesting that adoption is becoming established but is not accelerating uniformly.

Deloitte’s research points to a similar transition in financial services. Its survey of roughly 540 financial-services respondents found that 46% fit its profile of generative-AI “pioneers,” while those early adopters were substantially more likely to expect transformational impact from the technology.

For investment management specifically, Deloitte has highlighted the importance of combining AI with strong data governance, monitoring and human oversight. Its research identifies data analysis and information research among the technology skills expected to gain value as generative AI becomes more deeply embedded in investment workflows.

That is where ASKB’s mobile expansion becomes strategically interesting.

The challenge for enterprise AI is no longer simply putting a chatbot in front of employees. It is making AI available at the point where decisions happen while preserving context, permissions, auditability and control.

What it means for financial institutions

For Bloomberg users, the immediate benefit is convenience. But for investment firms, the longer-term question is whether AI can become a continuous layer across research and decision-making rather than another application employees have to remember to open.

A portfolio manager checking a watchlist between meetings, an analyst researching an executive before a conference or an investor reacting to a breaking-news alert can all remain inside the same workflow.

That could increase the practical value of AI because the technology is available when the question arises—not several hours later when the employee returns to a desktop.

Bloomberg says more mobile capabilities are planned, including the ability to ask ASKB to retrieve a user’s own worksheets and surface news most relevant to that user.

The direction is clear: Bloomberg is turning ASKB from a Terminal feature into a persistent financial research interface that follows professionals across devices.

The competitive test will be whether that continuity translates into faster, better decisions without weakening the controls that institutional finance requires.

Market Landscape

Financial AI is moving through a transition from experimentation toward embedded enterprise workflows.

Bloomberg’s advantage is its combination of proprietary financial information, professional user entitlements, analytics and an established workflow environment. That puts ASKB in a different category from general-purpose AI assistants, even as the underlying conversational experience increasingly resembles them.

The competitive field includes Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini and specialist financial AI platforms focused on research, portfolio management and capital markets. Bloomberg’s challenge is to demonstrate that its deeper integration with professional financial data produces materially better outcomes than generic AI layered onto existing workflows.

For enterprise investment firms, governance will remain decisive. Deloitte’s investment-management research emphasizes human oversight, monitoring and data-privacy guardrails as AI becomes more deeply integrated into financial operations.

ASKB’s cross-device architecture therefore matters not simply because it makes AI more convenient, but because it attempts to make governed AI continuously available inside an existing professional system.
