01Fintech Invests in DANA as Indonesia Payments Expand

01F Group’s growth-stage fintech investment arm, 01Fintech, has invested in Indonesian digital financial platform DANA, adding capital and regional fintech expertise as DANA looks to expand financial services for consumers and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

01Fintech backs DANA’s expansion beyond digital payments

01F Group is increasing its exposure to Southeast Asia’s financial technology market through an investment in DANA, one of Indonesia’s major digital wallet and financial services platforms.

The investment was made through 01Fintech, 01F Group’s growth-stage fintech private equity arm. The firms said the partnership will focus on strengthening DANA’s core platform while exploring additional financial services, including lending, working capital, insurance, savings, wealth products and cross-border payments.

The transaction comes as Indonesia’s digital financial infrastructure continues to mature. For DANA, the opportunity extends beyond payment acceptance: its existing consumer and merchant network could provide a distribution layer for additional financial products.

DANA reported approximately 200 million accounts and 1.2 million registered MSME merchants in its 2024 sustainability reporting. Around 40% of those MSME merchants were located in rural or non-metropolitan areas, according to the company.

That geographic reach is significant for Financial Technology in Indonesia, where digital platforms increasingly connect smaller businesses and consumers with payment and financial services that were historically distributed through more traditional channels.

Indonesia’s digital payments infrastructure reaches scale

The investment reflects the broader growth of Indonesia’s digital economy and the increasing importance of payment infrastructure to everyday commerce.

The 2025 e-Conomy SEA report from Google, Temasek and Bain & Company said more than 60% of payments across Southeast Asia were digital in 2025. Across ASEAN-10 markets, digital payment gross transaction value was estimated at about $1.4 trillion in 2025 and projected to reach approximately $2.4 trillion to $2.6 trillion by 2030.

Indonesia is one of the region’s largest digital economies, making payment platforms strategically important not only for consumer transactions but also for merchant operations.

DANA’s business offering already extends into merchant payments and business tools. Its DANA Bisnis service supports QRIS payments, transaction tracking, balance withdrawals and promotional tools for MSMEs.

QRIS, Indonesia’s national QR payment standard, also provides an interoperability layer across participating payment providers. DANA’s enterprise payment infrastructure supports methods including virtual accounts, cards, e-wallets and QRIS.

For Digital Payments Platforms, this creates an opportunity to move from a single-use payment application toward a broader financial-services ecosystem.

Investment targets MSME financial access

One of the clearest areas identified by 01Fintech and DANA is expanding access to credit and working capital for businesses using the platform.

The companies said they will explore ways to connect MSMEs on DANA with scalable lending and working-capital solutions. They also plan to examine products such as micro-insurance, digital savings and wealth-building services.

The strategy reflects a broader Southeast Asian trend in which digital wallets are increasingly becoming distribution channels for financial products beyond payments. The 2025 e-Conomy SEA report noted that digital lending continues to expand among underserved communities and that embedded loans bundled into e-commerce and e-wallet services are supporting platform monetization. It also highlighted the growing availability of micro-investment products through e-wallet providers.

For DANA, extending into these categories would place greater emphasis on underwriting, risk management, regulatory compliance and partnerships with licensed financial institutions.

It also changes the economics of a digital wallet. Payments can provide frequent customer engagement, while lending, savings, insurance and investment products can potentially increase the range of financial services available through the same customer relationship.

The investment announcement does not specify launch dates, transaction volumes or the financial institutions that would participate in any new lending, insurance or wealth initiatives.

Cross-border payments are another potential growth area

The two companies also identified regional connectivity as an area for collaboration, including potential cross-border payment solutions for Indonesian merchants and consumers.

That direction aligns with a wider push across Southeast Asia to connect national payment systems. The e-Conomy SEA report said all ASEAN countries had adopted national unified QR systems and that most had expanded regional cross-border payment interoperability by 2025.

For DANA, cross-border connectivity could expand the utility of its existing merchant and consumer infrastructure beyond domestic transactions.

However, cross-border payments require more than connecting wallets. Currency conversion, settlement arrangements, regulatory requirements, fraud controls and interoperability between domestic payment systems all influence how such services can operate.

This makes Embedded Finance Infrastructure and payment interoperability important components of the next stage of Southeast Asia’s digital-payments development.

DANA’s scale gives 01Fintech multiple expansion paths

The investment also gives 01Fintech a deeper position in Indonesia’s fintech ecosystem.

DANA operates through PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe and is licensed by Bank Indonesia as a Category I Payment Service Provider, with activities including electronic wallets, payment-account issuance, fund transfers and payment initiation or acquiring.

Its existing infrastructure therefore provides a foundation for the additional services outlined by the companies, although those services would require the relevant regulatory permissions and operating partnerships where applicable.

DANA’s stated focus on MSMEs also gives the partnership a route into Indonesia’s real economy. Merchant payment data and transaction relationships can provide a foundation for financial products, although using that information for credit decisions requires appropriate consent, governance and risk controls.

For the broader Fintech Startup Ecosystem, the deal illustrates how scaled payment platforms are increasingly being positioned as infrastructure for multiple financial services rather than standalone wallets.

01Fintech said it intends to support DANA through its regional network and fintech-sector expertise. DANA, meanwhile, said the partnership would focus on strengthening its core platform and supporting merchants and communities across Indonesia.

The next stage will depend on how the companies translate the investment into new financial products and regional connectivity. For now, the announced strategy points to a broader platform model in which digital payments serve as the entry point for deeper financial relationships with consumers and MSMEs.

Market Landscape

Southeast Asia’s digital payment infrastructure is moving toward greater scale and interoperability. Google, Temasek and Bain estimated ASEAN-10 digital payment GTV at roughly $1.4 trillion in 2025, with the market projected at approximately $2.4 trillion–$2.6 trillion by 2030.

At the platform level, DANA says it had around 200 million accounts and 1.2 million registered MSME merchants in its 2024 sustainability reporting, with about 40% of those merchants located in rural or non-metro areas.

The competitive landscape is consequently shifting from simple wallet adoption toward broader ecosystems combining payments, merchant services, credit, savings, insurance, wealth products and cross-border transactions.
