HashKey and RD Technologies Expand RDUSD Stablecoin Use

  • News
  • November 2, 2026

HashKey On-Chain and RD Technologies are partnering to expand the use of RDUSD, a US dollar-backed stablecoin, across institutional digital asset trading, cross-border payments, corporate treasury management, and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. The collaboration will see RDUSD deployed on HSK Chain, HashKey’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, with plans to integrate the stablecoin into trade finance and settlement platforms. The initiative reflects a broader shift in financial technology toward using regulated digital currencies as settlement infrastructure for commercial transactions, rather than limiting stablecoins to cryptocurrency trading.

HashKey Brings RDUSD Stablecoin Into Institutional Finance

HashKey On-Chain’s partnership with RD Technologies signals a move to connect stablecoin infrastructure with traditional financial operations, particularly cross-border commerce and institutional settlement. Rather than positioning RDUSD solely as a digital asset trading currency, the companies are exploring its use across corporate payments, trade finance, treasury operations, and tokenized real-world assets.

The collaboration will introduce RDUSD to HSK Chain, HashKey’s Ethereum Layer 2 network, where the companies plan to conduct on-chain testing and develop integrations with existing financial applications. The initiative brings together RD Technologies’ stablecoin and cross-border payment activities with HashKey’s infrastructure for digital asset issuance, trading, settlement, and blockchain-based financial services.

The announcement, dated November 2, 2026, does not represent a completed rollout across all the proposed applications. Several use cases remain at the technical exploration and integration stage.

RDUSD Targets Institutional Stablecoin Adoption

RDUSD is a US dollar stablecoin supported by Hong Kong-based RD Technologies and issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., a federally chartered US bank specializing in digital asset custody and institutional financial services.

The stablecoin is designed with the US GENIUS Act framework in mind. Signed into law on July 18, 2025, the legislation establishes federal requirements for payment stablecoin issuers, including provisions covering permitted issuers and regulatory oversight. However, describing RDUSD as designed to comply with the framework should not be confused with independent confirmation of its regulatory status under every applicable requirement. OCC+1

For institutional users, the proposed value proposition extends beyond maintaining dollar-denominated liquidity in digital asset markets. Stablecoins can provide a programmable settlement instrument that operates through blockchain networks, potentially reducing the need for multiple intermediaries in certain transaction workflows.

HashKey plans to deploy RDUSD on HSK Chain, providing infrastructure for smart contract execution, token circulation, and integration with decentralized financial applications.

According to HashKey, HSK Chain’s ecosystem includes more than 200 projects and over $300 million in on-chain real-world assets, including money market funds, exchange-traded funds, and precious metals. These are company-reported figures rather than independently verified measurements.

The network’s existing relationship with Morpho, through a CeDeFi initiative, also creates a potential connection between traditional institutional capital and decentralized lending infrastructure.

Three Financial Applications Drive the Partnership

The partnership outlines three principal integration areas across HashKey’s financial technology platforms.

1. Tokenized asset trading and settlement

HashKey Trading Portal (HTP) is expected to use RDUSD for settlement involving tokenized RWA products. This could provide a common dollar-denominated settlement asset for transactions involving financial instruments and other blockchain-based representations of traditional assets.

The approach addresses an important infrastructure challenge in asset tokenization: issuing a digital representation of an asset is only one part of the process. Investors and institutions also need reliable payment, settlement, custody, and redemption mechanisms.

2. Cross-border trade finance

The companies also intend to integrate RDUSD into HashKey’s trade finance platform.

The proposed model combines stablecoin settlement with tokenized trade documents, including electronic bills of lading. Smart contracts could support delivery-versus-payment (DvP) transactions, coordinating the transfer of assets and funds once agreed conditions are satisfied.

For importers, exporters, and financial institutions, this could support more continuous clearing and settlement rather than relying exclusively on conventional banking operating hours.

RDUSD is also expected to support disbursements and repayments associated with trade financing conducted by licensed financial institutions. Its practical value will depend on integration with banking partners, trade documentation systems, compliance controls, and participating payment networks.

3. Corporate payments and treasury management

HashKey Settlement Platform (HSP) represents the third application area. The companies plan to explore RDUSD integration into payment and settlement protocols supporting corporate collections, international disbursements, cash pooling, and cross-border payment providers.

This is particularly relevant for businesses operating across multiple markets, where managing dollar liquidity, payment timing, and reconciliation can create operational complexity.

The partnership also identifies automated AI agent payments as a potential future application. Such systems could eventually use programmable digital currencies to execute authorized transactions automatically. However, this remains an exploratory direction rather than a confirmed commercial service.

Stablecoin Infrastructure Meets Traditional Banking

The announcement comes as financial institutions increasingly examine blockchain-based settlement alongside conventional payment infrastructure.

McKinsey’s Global Payments Report 2025 identifies stablecoins and tokenized money as emerging alternatives within the payments ecosystem. The report estimates stablecoin daily transaction volumes at approximately $30 billion, while emphasizing that these flows remain small relative to the trillions of dollars processed through global payment systems each day. This distinction is important. Stablecoin adoption in trading markets does not automatically translate into widespread use for commercial payments. Institutional adoption requires more than blockchain transaction speed: businesses need predictable redemption, liquidity, regulatory clarity, counterparty protections, and integration with existing financial systems.

HashKey and RD Technologies are attempting to address this infrastructure gap by connecting a dollar-backed digital asset with trading, trade finance, and corporate settlement applications.

The strategy also places the partnership within a competitive market involving established stablecoin issuers, banking infrastructure providers, payment networks, and blockchain platforms. Companies such as Circle and Tether have helped establish stablecoins as significant instruments in digital asset markets, while banks and payment providers are exploring tokenized money and blockchain settlement for institutional applications.

The differentiating question for RDUSD will be whether its integration into commercial workflows can generate sustained transaction demand beyond crypto-native activity.

Regulatory Compliance and Execution Will Determine Adoption

The involvement of Anchorage Digital Bank provides an institutional issuance structure, but the broader partnership will still need to address jurisdiction-specific payment regulations, anti-money laundering controls, customer verification, reserve transparency, and redemption arrangements.

Cross-border payments introduce further complications because the legal treatment of stablecoins, payment intermediaries, and digital asset transfers differs between markets.

For businesses in Asia, the proposed integration could be relevant to international trade corridors where dollar settlement remains central to commercial transactions. Yet practical adoption will depend on whether participating banks, corporates, and payment providers can connect the blockchain infrastructure with their existing treasury and accounting systems.

The partnership’s immediate milestone is RDUSD’s planned deployment and testing on HSK Chain. Its longer-term ambition is to establish a stablecoin-based financial infrastructure layer connecting tokenized assets, international commerce, and institutional finance.

For GlobalFinTechEdge, the development is notable because it shifts the stablecoin conversation from digital asset liquidity toward the underlying financial infrastructure required to move money between businesses, markets, and banking systems.

Whether RDUSD achieves that transition will depend less on the number of blockchain integrations announced and more on actual institutional usage, settlement volumes, regulatory acceptance, and the reliability of its fiat redemption mechanisms.

Market Landscape

The HashKey–RD Technologies partnership reflects five developing trends in financial technology:

  • Stablecoin-based payments: Dollar-backed digital currencies are increasingly being explored for institutional settlement and international payments.
  • Real-world asset tokenization: Money market funds, ETFs, and other financial instruments are moving toward blockchain-based issuance and distribution.
  • Open banking and embedded finance: Businesses increasingly need payment and treasury infrastructure integrated directly into commercial workflows.
  • Blockchain trade finance: Smart contracts and tokenized trade documentation could streamline transaction coordination and settlement.
  • AI-enabled financial operations: Programmable payment infrastructure could eventually support authorized automated transactions between AI agents and financial services.

McKinsey’s 2025 payments research highlights the growing relevance of stablecoins while noting that their contribution remains relatively small compared with conventional global payment volumes. This makes institutional integration and real-world transaction adoption important measures of progress. McKinsey
