Apex, Range Finance Expand Digital Wealth Infrastructure

Apex Fintech Solutions and Range Finance have formed a strategic alliance to expand Range’s digital wealth-management platform, using Apex’s AscendOS infrastructure for account opening, transfers, funding and portfolio management. The partnership also creates a technology foundation for Range to expand into broker-dealer services as it broadens the financial products available to high-income U.S. households.

Wealth management is increasingly moving toward software platforms that combine investing, financial planning, tax strategy and cash-flow management in a single digital experience. Apex Fintech Solutions and Range Finance are taking another step in that direction through a new infrastructure alliance designed to expand Range’s investment and brokerage capabilities.

Range Finance, which serves high-income U.S. households, will use Apex’s cloud-native AscendOS platform to support self-directed account openings and transfers, digital funding and portfolio management. The companies say the infrastructure will also provide a foundation for Range’s planned expansion into broker-dealer services.

The arrangement illustrates a broader trend in digital wealth management: financial platforms increasingly want to control the customer experience while relying on specialized infrastructure providers for custody, clearing, trading and account operations.

For Range, that division allows the company to concentrate on financial guidance and its broader household-finance proposition rather than building the underlying brokerage infrastructure itself.

Range currently operates as a registered investment adviser and manages assets for its members. Its platform brings together investment management with services covering tax strategy, retirement planning, cash-flow analysis and real estate management. The company is now adding more investment infrastructure through Apex, including access to equities, exchange-traded funds, mutual funds, options, margin loans and fixed-income products.

Alternative investments are also planned as Range expands its platform.

At the infrastructure level, Apex’s AscendOS is designed to provide digital account opening, funding, transfers, custody, clearing and trading capabilities. For financial technology companies, these services are increasingly becoming modular infrastructure that can be embedded into consumer-facing applications.

The model resembles the broader evolution of embedded finance. Instead of developing every regulated financial capability internally, fintech companies can connect to specialized infrastructure through APIs and concentrate their resources on customer acquisition, product design and financial advice.

Apex’s role is particularly relevant because wealth management requires more than a trading interface. Account opening, asset transfers, settlement, custody, tax documentation and portfolio administration all need to operate together. A fragmented technology stack can create operational complexity that becomes more difficult to manage as assets and customer numbers grow.

Range will also use Apex Rebalancer, which supports portfolio-management strategies including direct indexing, custom indexing and tax-loss harvesting. These capabilities are increasingly important in technology-enabled wealth management because they allow advisers to personalize portfolios while automating some of the operational work required to maintain them.

Direct indexing, for example, enables an investor to hold a customized portfolio of individual securities designed to track an index rather than simply owning an index fund. That structure can provide additional opportunities for tax management and portfolio customization, although its suitability depends on an investor’s circumstances.

The partnership therefore goes beyond adding self-directed investing. It creates infrastructure for Range to combine adviser-led financial planning with automated investment-management tools.

That hybrid approach is becoming more common across wealth technology. Traditional wealth management has historically relied heavily on human advisers, while robo-advisory platforms emphasized automated portfolio construction. Newer fintech platforms are increasingly combining digital account infrastructure, automated portfolio management and human financial guidance.

The competitive landscape includes large custodians, broker-dealers, wealth-tech providers and fintech infrastructure companies competing to supply the underlying technology. Companies such as Charles Schwab, Fidelity and Morgan Stanley operate large wealth-management ecosystems, while infrastructure providers such as Apex are increasingly positioned behind fintech brands rather than directly competing for the same end customer.

Apex’s infrastructure strategy also reflects the broader unbundling of financial services. Brokerage, custody, clearing, trading and portfolio technology can be supplied through specialized platforms, allowing a newer generation of fintech companies to assemble financial products without recreating an entire financial institution.

For the fintech startup ecosystem, that lowers one of the traditional barriers to launching investment products. It can also enable wealth platforms to add asset classes and investment strategies incrementally as their customer base develops.

For Range, the immediate focus is on improving account opening, transfers, funding and portfolio management. The longer-term objective is broader: creating the infrastructure needed to support additional brokerage capabilities and investment products.

The alliance also highlights the growing importance of personalization in digital wealth management. High-income households often have more complicated financial lives involving taxable investment accounts, retirement assets, property, cash management and tax considerations. A platform that can bring those elements into a unified interface needs both sophisticated front-end software and reliable financial infrastructure underneath.

That is where Apex’s technology becomes strategically important to Range. Rather than replacing Range’s advice and planning proposition, AscendOS is intended to handle much of the regulated infrastructure required to execute it.

The result is another example of financial infrastructure becoming increasingly invisible to end users. Customers may interact with a single digital wealth platform, while multiple specialized systems handle account custody, trading, portfolio management and other financial operations behind the scenes.

As digital wealth management evolves, the competitive question is increasingly about how effectively those layers work together. Range’s alliance with Apex places that infrastructure model at the center of its next phase of product expansion.

Market Landscape

Digital wealth management is moving toward increasingly modular infrastructure, with fintechs able to combine advice, portfolio management, brokerage and financial-planning experiences through specialized providers.

The Apex-Range alliance fits this embedded wealth infrastructure model. Apex supplies custody, clearing, trading and account infrastructure, while Range retains the customer relationship and focuses on personalized financial guidance.

The development also reflects the wider growth of wealth-tech platforms, where direct indexing, automated rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting and self-directed investing are increasingly delivered through digital interfaces.

For GlobalFinTechEdge, the key trend is the convergence of wealth management, embedded finance infrastructure and financial planning technology. The next generation of platforms is less likely to be a single application and more likely to be a coordinated layer of specialized financial services.
