WFIS Awards 2026 to Recognize Philippine Financial Innovation Leaders

As the Philippines accelerates financial inclusion, digital banking and fintech adoption, the people building that transformation are becoming as important as the technologies themselves. The WFIS Awards 2026, taking place August 26 at Manila Marriott, will recognize financial-services professionals across technology, cybersecurity, data, digital banking, customer experience and wealth management.

The Philippines’ financial-services industry is entering a more demanding phase of digital transformation. Banks, insurers, fintech companies and regulators are no longer focused only on putting traditional services online. They are increasingly working on the infrastructure, data capabilities and digital experiences needed to make financial services more accessible and resilient.

That shift is creating a new question for the industry: who is actually delivering the transformation?

The World Financial Innovation Series (WFIS) Awards 2026 will attempt to answer it by recognizing individual professionals across some of the Philippines’ most important financial-technology disciplines.

The awards are scheduled for August 26, 2026, at Manila Marriott, forming part of the second day of WFIS Philippines. The event is expected to bring together more than 600 banking, insurance, fintech, technology and government leaders, according to WFIS.

Nominations are currently open, with submissions closing August 18.

Ten categories reflect where banking is changing

The 2026 awards span ten categories:

  • IT Maestro of the Year
  • GRC Advocate of the Year
  • Data & Analytics Leader of the Year
  • Retail Banker of the Year
  • Marketing Leader of the Year
  • Cyber Practitioner of the Year
  • CX Innovator of the Year
  • Woman Influencer in FSI
  • Digital Banking Champion of the Year
  • Wealth Management Expert of the Year

The breadth of the categories is revealing.

Digital transformation in financial services is no longer primarily an IT project. Data analytics, cybersecurity, governance, customer experience, marketing and wealth management are increasingly interconnected parts of the same technology ecosystem.

A digital banking application, for example, depends on identity infrastructure, cybersecurity controls, analytics and customer-experience design behind the interface. Likewise, AI-driven financial services require not only technical expertise but governance frameworks capable of managing data quality, privacy, model risk and accountability.

Financial inclusion is setting the policy direction

The awards arrive against a broader national push toward financial inclusion.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) describes its National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2022–2028 as a six-year roadmap intended to advance financial inclusion, inclusive growth and financial resilience. The strategy identifies targeted outcomes and strategic objectives for stakeholders across the financial ecosystem.

The strategy also reflects how dramatically the financial-services environment has changed since the Philippines introduced its first national financial-inclusion strategy in 2015. The BSP says changing consumer needs, technology and the effects of the pandemic were among the developments that prompted the updated strategy.

That creates a much wider definition of financial innovation.

It includes digital payments and banking access, but also the underlying systems that make those services secure and scalable. It encompasses alternative financial channels, data-driven decision-making, financial literacy, cybersecurity and the ability of institutions to serve customers across increasingly digital journeys.

AI, cloud and banking infrastructure move to the foreground

The country’s technology agenda is also moving beyond digitizing existing processes.

WFIS Philippines’ 2026 agenda includes discussions around cloud-native core banking, enterprise AI in financial services, banking-as-a-service and the future of money, illustrating how the sector’s priorities are shifting toward infrastructure and intelligent automation.

For financial institutions, that transition creates a difficult balancing act.

AI can improve customer service, fraud detection, personalization and operational efficiency. Cloud infrastructure can give banks greater scalability and flexibility. APIs can connect financial institutions with fintech providers and business platforms.

But every new layer introduces governance requirements.

The people responsible for deploying these technologies therefore have to operate across multiple disciplines. A technology leader needs to understand resilience and cybersecurity. A data leader needs to understand privacy and model governance. A customer-experience leader needs to work within regulatory and operational constraints.

That makes recognition programs such as the WFIS Awards relevant beyond the ceremony itself. They provide a snapshot of which competencies the financial industry considers strategically important.

The jury reflects the industry’s cross-functional nature

WFIS has assembled a jury drawn from banking, technology, consulting, cybersecurity and financial-services organizations.

The panel includes Rhea Luz Valbuena, Executive Director at Asia Pacific College’s School of Computing & IT; Harrison Gue, Executive Director of the Credit Card Association of the Philippines; Anna Marie Pabellon, Audit & Assurance Leader at Deloitte Philippines; Gilbert Trinchera, Partner in Technology Consulting at KPMG; Charlie Valerio, Vice President of the Philippines Chief Information Officer Association; and Carlos “Titus” Manuel, President of the Philippine Computer Society. WFIS also lists Blesilda Andres, former president of the Bankers Institute of the Philippines, and Francisco PAPA of the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific among the jury.

The composition matters because financial innovation increasingly crosses organizational boundaries.

Banks may build their own platforms, but they also work with fintechs, cloud providers, cybersecurity companies, consultants and government agencies. The Philippines’ financial-technology ecosystem consequently depends on collaboration as much as individual institutional capability.

Recognition as the sector enters its next phase

WFIS Philippines describes the country as one of Southeast Asia’s increasingly dynamic financial ecosystems, pointing to expanding internet penetration, fintech investment and digital-economy growth. Its 2026 event is designed to bring together public- and private-sector decision-makers across banking, insurance, microfinance and government.

Against that backdrop, the WFIS Awards are positioned as more than a conventional industry ceremony.

The underlying story is about the changing definition of leadership in financial services.

The strongest financial institutions increasingly need people who can connect technology with business outcomes: deploying AI without compromising governance, improving digital experiences without weakening security, using data without eroding trust, and expanding access without sacrificing resilience.

The ten award categories reflect those priorities.

Whether the individual winners ultimately come from large banks, fintech companies, insurers, technology teams or other parts of the ecosystem, their recognition will offer a useful view of the skills and initiatives shaping Philippine financial services in 2026.

For a sector moving from digital adoption toward deeper technology transformation, that human layer may prove just as consequential as the platforms being built.

Market Landscape

The Philippine financial sector’s transformation is being shaped by three overlapping forces: financial inclusion, digital infrastructure and technological sophistication.

The BSP’s NSFI 2022–2028 places financial resilience and broad-based access at the center of the country’s inclusion agenda. Meanwhile, the WFIS 2026 agenda shows financial institutions increasingly examining cloud-native architecture, enterprise AI and banking-as-a-service.

This means competition is moving beyond individual banking applications. Institutions increasingly need scalable technology platforms, strong cybersecurity, reliable data, interoperable systems and customer-centric digital journeys.

The result is a broader market for specialists in AI, data analytics, GRC, cybersecurity, digital banking and customer experience—precisely the disciplines represented by this year’s WFIS Awards.
