Approov Secures $6.7M to Lead Mobile App & API Security in an AI-Powered, Post-App Store Era

As mobile threats evolve and regulatory floodgates swing open, Approov Limited just scored a well-timed $6.7 million Series A to meet the moment.

The Edinburgh-based cybersecurity firm, known for its patented mobile app and API security platform, announced the new funding round led by Maven Capital Partners’ Investment Fund for Scotland. Also joining were Souter Investments, Lanza techVentures, and Scottish Enterprise. The fresh capital will expand Approov’s R&D team and accelerate innovation in securing mobile app communications against fraud, tampering, and AI-powered cyberattacks.

“Mobile app security can’t be an afterthought anymore,” said CEO Ted Miracco. “We’re ensuring every mobile app instance is authenticated and backend APIs are protected from fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.”

Reinventing Mobile Security for a Fragmented, Regulated Future

Approov’s core tech is centered around real-time app attestation and runtime API protection—key differentiators in a field increasingly plagued by threats ranging from credential stuffing bots to tampered APKs on rooted devices. Its platform is already trusted by major players in fintech, health tech, e-commerce, and connected vehicles.

The company’s pitch hits a nerve: while mobile app developers battle AI-driven threats, global laws are reshaping the ecosystem from the top down. The EU’s Digital Markets Act and the UK’s DMCC bill are directly challenging the Apple-Google app store duopoly. Approov’s security solutions empower developers to safely distribute apps outside traditional walled gardens—cutting out middlemen and potentially reclaiming the 30% revenue typically swallowed by platform fees.

That’s not just security—it’s liberation with a bottom-line benefit.

“Approov delivers essential trust across fragmented platforms, including non-GMS Android and HarmonyOS,” noted Dr. Edward Amoroso, CEO of TAG Infosphere and former AT&T CISO. “This is critical infrastructure in the AI era.”

Intellectual Property at the Core

According to Maven, the company’s strong IP portfolio was a major factor in backing the round.

Approov’s real-time attestation engine not only verifies that an app hasn’t been tampered with but also ensures API calls are coming from legitimate, uncompromised mobile instances. This kind of in-app and in-API intelligence is increasingly seen as essential in a landscape where APIs have become a favorite attack vector for fraudsters and hostile bots.

“With the growing demand for API-level defenses, Approov is uniquely positioned to lead this next era of mobile security,” said Craig McGill, Investment Manager at Maven.

This funding round also signals that investors are betting big on infrastructure-layer security over perimeter defenses—especially as applications go cross-platform, cross-border, and increasingly off-app store.

As the mobile app market decentralizes and threats go AI-native, Approov is staking a serious claim as the go-to defender of mobile APIs. With fresh capital, IP muscle, and an eye on regulatory shifts, it’s not just reacting to the future of mobile security—it’s trying to define it.
