insureMO, Gallagher Expand API-Led Digital Insurance Distribution in Philippines

Insurance distribution is moving beyond traditional agents, brokers and bancassurance channels as insurers increasingly place coverage inside banking, lending, payments and other digital customer journeys. In the Philippines, Gallagher is expanding that model through an API-led distribution platform from insureMO, initially supporting an affinity program with a leading loan company and creating infrastructure for additional banking, embedded insurance and financial-services channels.

Gallagher has launched an API-led insurance distribution platform from insureMO to expand its digital insurance capabilities in the Philippines, a move that highlights the growing importance of technology infrastructure in connecting insurers with nontraditional distribution channels.

The implementation is designed to support Gallagher’s distribution across affinity, banking, embedded insurance, financial services and other emerging ecosystems. The initial deployment covers Gallagher’s affinity business with a leading loan company, with products including Group Credit Life, Group Personal Accident, Enhanced Group Personal Accident, Family Relief Program, Calamity Assistance Program, Fire, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment.

According to the companies, the portfolio generated more than 400 million in aggregate policy and transaction value between January and July 2026. The announcement does not specify the currency, so the figure is best treated as a company-reported transaction measure rather than a directly comparable premium figure.

The technology layer is arguably more significant than the initial portfolio.

insureMO’s platform brings together insurance product configuration, digital customer journeys, APIs and carrier connectivity. For Gallagher, that architecture is intended to make it easier to connect distribution partners and insurers without building separate integrations for every product or channel.

That matters because digital insurance increasingly depends on the ability to assemble products around an existing customer journey rather than asking consumers to begin a separate insurance-shopping process.

McKinsey has estimated that embedded insurance in Asia could reach $270 billion in gross written premiums by 2030, with much of the growth coming as insurance moves from traditional distribution toward integrated digital channels.

The API Layer Is Becoming Strategic Insurance Infrastructure

The shift toward API-led insurance distribution is part of a broader change in how insurers approach technology.

Traditional insurance distribution often requires multiple systems to exchange customer, product, underwriting and policy information. Adding a new distributor or insurer can therefore become an integration project in its own right.

An API-led middle-office platform can abstract some of that complexity.

In practical terms, Gallagher can use a common technology layer to configure products, connect carriers and expose insurance capabilities through different digital channels. That could allow the company to launch or modify products without creating an entirely new technology pathway each time.

insureMO describes its platform as an insurance middle-office infrastructure layer designed to connect insurers and digital ecosystems through APIs. Its channel proposition extends beyond brokers to banks, payment applications, e-commerce platforms, automakers, travel companies and other businesses that can embed insurance into their customer journeys.

The model is not unique to insureMO. Competing approaches include insurance-as-a-service platforms, digital broker infrastructure, insurer-owned API layers and broader insurtech marketplaces.

The differentiation increasingly comes down to connectivity, product flexibility, carrier coverage and the ability to support multiple distribution models without creating technology silos.

Why the Philippines Matters

Gallagher’s Philippines expansion comes as the country’s insurance market continues to develop digital distribution models.

The company traces its Philippine presence to Philinsure, established in 2000, while its global business dates to 1927 and operates across more than 130 countries. The combination gives Gallagher a local distribution base while providing access to a broader international insurance and risk-management network.

The Philippines also has room to expand insurance access. insureMO’s 2025 partnership announcement with MoneyHero noted that insurance penetration in the Philippines was around 2% of GDP, compared with roughly 4–5% across the region.

That gap makes digital distribution strategically important.

Rather than relying exclusively on consumers actively seeking insurance, insurers and intermediaries can place relatively simple protection products inside financial or commercial transactions where an identifiable insurance need already exists.

Credit-life insurance attached to lending is one example. Similar models can apply to travel, payments, mobility, e-commerce, employee benefits and other ecosystems.

Gallagher’s Next Digital Distribution Phase

The initial loan-related affinity program is only the starting point.

Gallagher and insureMO are pursuing opportunities involving retail insurance through banks, commercial transportation coverage, embedded insurance for financial-services companies, standalone digital insurance marketplaces and broader insurer connectivity.

That expansion reflects a wider industry shift toward ecosystem-based insurance.

McKinsey has identified embedded insurance as one of the major distribution opportunities for Asian insurers, noting that digitally integrated insurance can create new customer access while shortening the purchase journey. The consultancy has also highlighted the importance of API connectivity, digital-ready products and partnerships between insurers and noninsurance platforms.

For enterprise insurance teams, the challenge is not simply putting an insurance product behind an API. They also need to manage product governance, carrier relationships, customer data, regulatory requirements, pricing, policy administration and claims journeys across multiple partners.

That makes the middle-office layer increasingly important.

If Gallagher can reuse the same infrastructure across banking, affinity, embedded and marketplace distribution, the technology could help turn individual digital insurance integrations into a repeatable distribution model.

The broader industry question is whether platforms such as insureMO can become the connective tissue between insurers and the growing number of financial and commercial ecosystems where insurance is sold.

As digital insurance matures, competitive advantage may increasingly shift from simply having an online sales channel to having the infrastructure required to launch, connect and manage insurance products across many channels at scale.

Market Landscape

Asia is emerging as a major testing ground for embedded insurance and API-led distribution. McKinsey estimates Asia’s nonlife embedded-insurance market could reach approximately $170 billion by 2030, while its broader analysis projects embedded insurance across Asia at $270 billion in GWP by the same period.

The competitive landscape includes several models:

  • Insurance middle-office platforms: connect carriers, products and distributors through reusable technology infrastructure.
  • Insurance-as-a-service platforms: expose insurance capabilities to banks, fintechs and digital ecosystems.
  • Digital brokers and marketplaces: aggregate products and place insurance directly within consumer journeys.
  • Insurer-owned API infrastructure: gives large carriers greater control over digital distribution and partner connectivity.
  • Embedded insurance platforms: integrate coverage directly into noninsurance transactions.

For Gallagher, the strategic advantage of an API-led approach is the potential to reuse connectivity across multiple ecosystems rather than treating each new distribution partnership as an isolated technology implementation.

The tradeoff is that greater distribution complexity also increases requirements around data governance, compliance, partner management and operational consistency.
