Solar Landscape Secures Up to $150M Financing to Accelerate U.S. Distributed Energy Projects

As electricity demand rises across the United States and grid constraints challenge renewable energy deployment, distributed energy developers are increasingly turning to institutional capital to speed project delivery. Solar Landscape has secured a development financing facility of up to $150 million from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a move designed to accelerate commercial rooftop solar development and strengthen the company’s position in the rapidly expanding distributed energy infrastructure market.

Solar Landscape, a developer of distributed energy infrastructure focused on commercial real estate, has closed a development financing facility of up to $150 million with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its Green Credit Fund II (CI GCF II). The financing will provide flexible development capital to help advance approximately 250 MWdc of distributed solar assets currently in mid- and late-stage development across the United States.

The transaction reflects growing investor confidence in distributed renewable energy infrastructure as utilities, businesses, and policymakers seek faster ways to add electricity generation to an increasingly constrained power grid. Rather than funding completed assets, the facility is structured to support projects earlier in the development lifecycle, enabling Solar Landscape to accelerate procurement, grid interconnection, power purchase arrangements, and pre-construction activities before projects enter the construction phase.

Early-stage development financing has become an increasingly important component of renewable energy deployment. Developers often face significant capital requirements before construction financing becomes available, particularly as equipment procurement timelines, permitting processes, and utility interconnection queues continue to lengthen. Flexible financing facilities help bridge this gap, reducing project delays while improving capital efficiency across large development pipelines.

For Solar Landscape, the new financing is expected to increase throughput across its national portfolio. By advancing projects sooner, the company aims to shorten development timelines and bring new electricity generation online more quickly—an increasingly valuable capability as electricity consumption continues to rise due to data center expansion, electrification initiatives, electric vehicle adoption, and the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

The financing also strengthens Solar Landscape’s broader capital strategy. Over the past year, the company has completed several institutional financing transactions, including a $600 million senior debt facility, a $125 million corporate revolving credit facility, and a $117 million preferred equity investment. Combined with the newly announced development facility, Solar Landscape says it has raised more than $2.2 billion over the past three years, underscoring sustained institutional interest in distributed energy infrastructure.

The partnership represents another significant investment by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, one of the world’s largest infrastructure investment managers specializing in renewable energy, energy transition, and sustainable infrastructure. The financing marks the fourth investment completed by CI Green Credit Fund II following its first close of €1.3 billion earlier this year.

The transaction also illustrates the evolving role of private infrastructure capital in financing the energy transition. As commercial banks tighten lending standards and renewable energy projects become more capital intensive, specialized infrastructure funds are increasingly providing structured financing tailored to different phases of project development. These facilities allow developers to maintain project momentum while preserving long-term balance sheet flexibility.

Solar Landscape’s business model focuses on installing community solar projects on commercial and industrial rooftops, a segment of the distributed energy market that has attracted growing interest from utilities and policymakers. Unlike large utility-scale solar farms that often require extensive transmission upgrades, distributed rooftop solar connects directly to local distribution networks, allowing new generation capacity to be deployed more quickly while reducing pressure on congested transmission infrastructure.

This approach has become particularly relevant in regions served by the PJM Interconnection, the largest electricity market in the United States. PJM continues to experience growing electricity demand driven by industrial expansion, electrification, and hyperscale data centers operated by technology companies including Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta. These developments are increasing pressure on utilities to deploy new generation capacity while maintaining grid reliability.

Industry analysts expect distributed energy resources to play a larger role in addressing these challenges. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), solar photovoltaic capacity remains the fastest-growing source of renewable electricity globally. Meanwhile, BloombergNEF projects continued growth in distributed solar installations as businesses seek greater energy resilience and lower electricity costs.

Beyond generation capacity, distributed energy infrastructure is becoming increasingly important for enterprise sustainability strategies. Commercial property owners are investing in rooftop solar to reduce operating expenses, improve environmental performance, and support corporate net-zero commitments. The combination of declining technology costs, favorable policy incentives, and expanding financing options has strengthened the business case for distributed renewable energy across multiple industries.

The financing agreement positions Solar Landscape to capitalize on these long-term market trends while expanding its national development pipeline. As electricity demand accelerates and utilities seek faster deployment models, access to flexible institutional capital is likely to become a defining competitive advantage for developers capable of executing distributed energy projects at scale.

For enterprise stakeholders—including utilities, commercial real estate owners, infrastructure investors, and corporate energy buyers—the transaction highlights the growing importance of structured finance in accelerating renewable energy deployment. As distributed solar becomes a larger component of modern electricity systems, innovative financing mechanisms are expected to remain central to scaling clean energy infrastructure efficiently and meeting future power demand.

Market Landscape

The distributed energy market is undergoing rapid expansion as utilities seek alternatives to lengthy transmission projects and centralized generation. The International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that solar PV will remain the world’s largest source of new electricity generation through the decade, while BloombergNEF expects distributed solar investment to continue growing as commercial customers prioritize energy resilience and sustainability. Infrastructure investors, including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Brookfield, BlackRock, and Macquarie Asset Management, continue increasing allocations toward renewable energy development platforms, reflecting strong institutional demand for long-term energy transition assets.
