State Street, Galaxy Launch SWEEP Fund to Bring 24/7 Onchain Liquidity
State Street Investment Management and Galaxy Asset Management are joining forces to push traditional finance into the blockchain era. The duo announced the upcoming State Street Galaxy Onchain Liquidity Sweep Fund (SWEEP), a tokenized private liquidity fund designed to offer qualified investors 24/7 onchain liquidity via PYUSD stablecoins. Ondo Finance is expected to seed the fund with roughly $200 million.
Bridging TradFi and DeFi
SWEEP aims to combine State Street’s decades of cash and liquidity management expertise with Galaxy’s blockchain infrastructure capabilities. Investors will be able to subscribe and redeem using PYUSD, subject to portfolio availability, creating a digital cash management solution that operates around the clock—a stark contrast to traditional liquidity windows in conventional funds.
Kim Hochfeld, global head of cash and digital assets at State Street Investment Management, highlighted the fund’s potential: “We’re beginning to see what’s possible when TradFi and DeFi sector players unite – joint efforts like this stand to have a far-reaching impact on the future of asset management and capital markets.”
Multi-Blockchain Ambitions
SWEEP will initially launch on the Solana blockchain in early 2026, with plans to expand to Stellar and Ethereum in the future. To support cross-chain interoperability, Galaxy will leverage Chainlink’s oracle network, ensuring smooth transactions and portfolio accessibility across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
Institutional-Grade Digital Infrastructure
State Street Bank and Trust Company will act as custodian for the fund’s treasury holdings, while Galaxy provides tokenization technology and secure digital infrastructure for the issuance and management of SWEEP tokens. The collaboration ensures that institutional investors get the transparency, security, and efficiency expected from traditional cash management, now onchain.
Steve Kurz, Galaxy’s global head of asset management, described the initiative as “game-changing,” offering institutional DeFi investors a way to hold cash and manage operations in a tokenized, instantly accessible format. Ondo Finance’s Ian De Bode emphasized that SWEEP exemplifies how tokenization is becoming the connective tissue between traditional finance and the onchain economy.
Continuing the State Street–Galaxy Partnership
SWEEP builds on an ongoing collaboration between State Street and Galaxy. In September 2024, the firms launched three actively managed ETFs sub-advised by Galaxy, focused on digital assets and disruptive technologies. The new fund extends this relationship from ETFs to innovative onchain liquidity products, signaling a broader strategy to integrate digital assets into mainstream institutional finance.
Implications for the Market
By combining tokenized access, PYUSD stablecoins, and traditional cash management know-how, SWEEP represents a major step toward real-time, onchain liquidity for institutional investors. This hybrid approach may accelerate the adoption of digital assets in institutional portfolios while setting a benchmark for future TradFi-DeFi collaborations.
