S&P Global Invests in Kaiko to Expand Digital Asset Data

S&P Global is deepening its push into digital assets and on-chain markets with a strategic investment in Kaiko, extending a partnership focused on crypto market data, financial benchmarks and blockchain-based market infrastructure.

S&P Global is making a strategic investment in Kaiko as the financial information provider expands its involvement in digital assets and on-chain markets. The investment, made through S&P Global Ventures as part of Kaiko’s Series B extension, builds on an existing relationship between the two companies spanning market data, indices and blockchain infrastructure.

The deal highlights a broader shift among established financial-market infrastructure providers toward supporting institutions operating in tokenized and decentralized markets. As digital assets move beyond retail crypto trading and into areas such as tokenized securities, benchmarks and institutional finance, reliable market data has become increasingly important.

Kaiko provides digital asset market data, indices and data infrastructure to financial institutions, regulators and other market participants. The company says it currently supports more than 250 financial firms, institutions and regulators globally.

For S&P Global, the investment provides a deeper connection to crypto-native market infrastructure while extending the company’s existing expertise in benchmarks, risk analysis and financial intelligence into blockchain-based markets.

Cathy Clay, CEO of S&P Dow Jones Indices, said the investment reflects S&P Global’s conviction that digital assets will play a growing role in financial markets. She described Kaiko’s market data and analytics capabilities as infrastructure for greater transparency across the digital asset ecosystem.

Kaiko CEO Ambre Soubiran similarly positioned the investment around the increasing importance of trusted data as financial markets move on-chain.

The partnership has already produced several initiatives. In March 2026, S&P Dow Jones Indices and Kaiko announced the tokenization of the iBoxx U.S. Treasuries Index on blockchain infrastructure. The initiative was designed to make a major financial benchmark available as a native digital asset, while incorporating data distribution, licensing and permissioning.

That development points to a potentially important use case for blockchain beyond cryptocurrency trading: bringing established financial benchmarks and reference data into programmable financial environments.

In September 2026, S&P DJI and Kaiko also introduced the S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices, combining S&P’s index expertise with Kaiko’s crypto-market data infrastructure. The suite is designed for digital asset markets that operate continuously rather than following the trading hours of traditional exchanges.

The timing is significant. Tokenization is increasingly being explored across financial markets, particularly for assets such as government securities, funds and other traditionally off-chain instruments. In these markets, accurate pricing, reference data, index methodologies and data governance can become as important as the underlying blockchain technology.

The development also places S&P Global alongside a growing group of established financial and technology companies exploring digital-asset infrastructure. Firms including BlackRock, JPMorgan and Visa have pursued different applications of tokenization and blockchain-based settlement, while technology providers continue developing the infrastructure needed to connect traditional financial systems with on-chain networks.

For institutions, the challenge is not simply gaining access to digital assets. They also need market data that can be incorporated into valuation, risk management, compliance and investment workflows. Crypto markets can span multiple exchanges and liquidity venues, creating additional requirements around data aggregation, normalization and quality.

Kaiko’s recent expansion adds another dimension to the strategy. The company has acquired Amberdata and Cometh, expanding its capabilities and geographic footprint across digital-asset data and blockchain infrastructure.

S&P Global’s investment therefore represents more than a financial stake in a crypto-data company. It strengthens an infrastructure relationship at a point when the boundary between conventional financial markets and decentralized networks is becoming less distinct.

The competitive question will be whether digital-asset data providers can become core infrastructure for institutional finance rather than remaining primarily associated with cryptocurrency markets. Companies able to combine real-time market information, trusted benchmarks, blockchain data and institutional-grade analytics could play a central role as more financial instruments become tokenized.

For S&P Global, the Kaiko investment provides one route into that emerging market. For Kaiko, the partnership brings the backing and financial-market credibility of a major global information provider as it attempts to scale its data infrastructure for institutions moving on-chain.

The next phase of digital-asset adoption may depend less on launching new tokens and more on making tokenized markets compatible with the data, standards and controls already expected across global finance.

Market Landscape

The digital asset market is increasingly shifting toward institutional infrastructure, tokenization and regulated financial applications. Market participants need reliable pricing data, benchmarks, index methodologies and blockchain analytics to support trading, valuation, compliance and risk management.

S&P Global’s deeper relationship with Kaiko reflects this transition. Rather than treating digital assets solely as a cryptocurrency category, financial infrastructure providers are increasingly addressing the underlying data and market-structure requirements needed to connect traditional finance with on-chain markets.

Tokenized U.S. Treasuries, digital-asset indices and blockchain-based financial benchmarks illustrate how established capital-market concepts are being adapted for continuously operating digital environments.
